The Virtual Center
for Collaboration between Statisticians in US and China

(Supported by the National Science Foundation, with contributions from the Minerva Research Foundation)

The main objective of the virtual center is to promote and support exchanges and collaborations between US-based and China-based researchers and educators in statistical science, and enable the US researchers and educators to have broad as well as specific interactions with their counterparts in China.

The virtual center has no bricks and walls. Its activities are guided by a scientific committee and executed by the Co-Directors Dr. Xuming He and Dr. Feng Liang. The scientific committee members are: The center supports the following activities
  1. support distinguished researchers in the US to visit Chinese institutions to give lectures and/or short courses on cutting-edge topics in statistics.

  2. support Chinese scholars to visit the US or US researchers to visit China to give lectures in selected institutions and to collaborate with researchers and students in the other country.

  3. co-sponsor conferences and workshops in China that benefit US-China collaborations among researchers and students in statistics.

  4. US-based researchers, who have well-thought-out research plans for collaboration with China-based counterparts but have no access to research funds to enable such a collaboration, can apply for support from the Center. Travel and other necessary expenses for the collaboration will be reimbursed by the center, if the collaboration plan is pre-approved by the scientific committee. To request support, please contact Dr. Feng Liang (email: liangf at uiuc dot edu) with the following information:
    • A copy of updated CV
    • A cover letter, including the reason for the request
    • A one-page summary of planned collaborative research activities with a Chinese researcher or researchers. Please indicate, as appriproate, if and how the collaboration benefits junior researchers, students, or anyone in the under-represented group in the US.
