Master of Science in Statistics

The Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Statistics requires the completion of eight units (courses) past the prerequisites. The entire program must be approved by the student's faculty advisor before a degree can be awarded.

Prerequisites

The student should have knowledge equivalent to that contained in the given courses:

  • MATH 415 or 418 -- Linear Algebra
  • MATH 380  -- Advanced Calculus
  • STAT 400 and 410 -- Statistics and Probability I and II
  • Knowledge of a computer programming language

Course Requirements

A total of 8 units (courses), subject to these conditions:

a) Each of the following courses are required:
  • STAT 424 - Analysis of Variance
  • STAT 425 - Applied Regression and Design
  • STAT 426 - Sampling and Categorical Data
  • STAT 427 - Statistical Consulting
  • STAT 510-511 - Mathematical Statistics I and II
b) Two courses from the following are required:
  • STAT 428 - Statistical Computing
  • STAT 429 - Time Series Analysis
  • STAT 430 - Topics in Applied Statistics
  • STAT 440 - Statistical Data Management
  • STAT 448 - Advanced Data Analysis
  • STAT 466 - Image and Neuroimage Analysis
  • STAT 525 - Current Research in Applied and Computational Statistics
  • STAT 530 - Bioinformatics
  • STAT 548 - Statistical Learning
  • STAT 571 - Multivariate Analysis
  • STAT 578 - Topics in Statistics
c) At least 3 courses must be taken at the 500 level

Course Substitutions

It is possible to make substitutions for part b of the courses listed above, but these must be approved by the student's faculty advisor.
