In memory of Professor Robert
Bohrer, the annual student workshop in Statistics will be held
on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Levis Faculty Center, 919 W.
Illinois, Urbana, IL 61801.
The keynote speaker will be Professor Mary Ellen Bock, Professor
and Head of the Department of Statistics at Purdue University.
The workshop offers the opportunity for students, both
undergraduate and graduate, to present their own work in
statistical application, method or theory.
The work may be a part of thesis research or may be original
material prepared for a course. Papers to be presented will be
chosen on the basis of originality, clarity of presentation,
statistical interest, and value of work either to the field of
statistics or, if applied, to the field of application. We
encourage students to submit papers that are no more than 30
pages long (double-spaced). Students chosen to present their
work at the workshop will receive monetary awards and
special recognition. Papers may be submitted either by the
faculty adviser or directly by the student. In any case, the
applicant must indicate the source of the research (e.g.,
whether it is part of thesis work, a special project, course
work, etc.), and must identify any advisers under whom work was
done. Applications from outside the University of Illinois are
welcome.
Submissions should be sent to Professor Hernando Ombao,
Department of Statistics, University of Illinois, 101 Illini
Hall, MC-374 (725 S. Wright Street, Champaign, IL 61820) and
must be received by Friday, March 23, 2007. Electronic
applications are also welcome. Please send to ombao@uiuc.edu.
Choice of papers and awards will be decided by a committee of
both applied and theoretical statisticians from across the UIUC
campus. All are invited to participate in the
Workshop and attend the presentations and lunch.
