Mining frequent patterns, associations and correlations has been claimed as one of the "major" research frontiers in data mining. However, statisticians have been working on those issues for many years. So, "what are the new findings that data miners have claimed, whether it does make sense to statisticians, and whether one can make real use out of such studies" These could be the questions that attract everyone's interest.
In this talk, I will present an overview of the work in this direction, and discuss its progress, findings, difficulties, research issues, and potential applications. Hopefully, I may like to attract some heated debates and feedbacks from the statistics community and see whether some lessons can be learned, and whether some new research collaborations can be initiated in this direction.
